….A passion for vintage fashion!
My interest in the 1940s and 1950s began many moons ago when I learnt to jive as part of a feature I was writing about.
I was mesmerised by the clothing, the events and the people attracted to this time period. It wasn’t long before I found myself shopping for clothing representative of that era (and of course all the accessories which go with them!)
My passion for finding the perfect item has often left me in a right state – either deeply disappointed if something won’t fit or euphoric at a great find. Such are the highs and lows of a wonderful hobby, yet I wouldn’t change my love for it.
Whilst the 1940s and 1950s were not exactly the most emancipated of times for a gal to be living in (and were even bleaker if you happened to be of a darker hue!) I like to take the best parts of that time such as the music and mix them with my modern life.
And I don’t save my vintage look just for special occasions – whether I’m doing the weekly food shop or meeting up with family and friends, I’m usually to be found in a yesteryear outfit. I’m hooked on how a girl can wear clothing that generally covers her up yet makes one feel so feminine.
I decided to start this blog as a way of pulling together my efforts to marry modern and vintage together. Modern Living – Vintage Loving documents my journey. Apart from clothing, there’s music, places of interest, festivals, vintage events and of course the jiving!
Living in Bedfordshire and initially having no friends with any interest in the era it’s been good to see my circle of friends expand to those who love to jump, jive and wail!So my blog is my way of connecting with other like-minded souls and hoping that you get something out of it too. Please feel free to leave comments on great places to go, shop and of course music to rock to.
Looking fabulous in that dress, girlfriend!! You sure know how to put an outfit together!!
